Superstions I thought was a thing of the past where it was rampant in the 50s up to the 80s.They are created to teach people some values or to eradicate their bad habits
The malays in used to say that if you sit on pillow you will have boils on your buttock.Well,it was to teach them not to sit on the pillow coz it was ,meant for the head not butt.Come to think it true.Who would want to sleep on pillow where everyone has farted.
Currently i am attach to this respactable organisation.I am utterly shocked when almost everyone strongly believe in 'pantangs'(superstions). From the first day they told me not to bang on the counter table because it is a bad omen resulting in busy day.And boy there are very serious about it.Its like the most sinful act you can commit there.Well they also believe that you should not talk about certain cases or you will end up handling those cases later on during your shift.
What crap.At first I didnt take it seriously since i never believe in such things.
Then one day when I was at the counter table I banged the table!!!.It like a norm to bang a table, you do it but dont realise it.One of the regulars caught me in the act and he was giving the'why did you do it' look.I bet he was swearing in his heart with all the vulgarities he knew.I apologized and went out patrolling. It was raining but when it stopped, the curse started. We were engaged from then on till we end our shift. Both patrols cars and counter was busy attending to cases. We ended up reporting off at 10pm(my latest so far).Ya,they blamed me for the busy day.
Another instance happened when of the regulars comented on my belt.He was asking why was my belt so loose since it will be very difficult to chase suspect later.True enough that night i gave my first chase ever with all the heavy equiptments around my waist in my loose belt which came to no avail, the adredeline rush was fun though.
After all these Im still a non-believer.Things happen for a reason.
It could be psycological. They tell the mind that they are going to face a busy day and the body reacts the same way.The crowds came flocking in after the rain so it was the rain that keep these 'customers' away initially but then came after the rain.So when alot of them came after the rain and with their mentality that a curse was cast on them obviously they blamed the buzy day on me and not the weather.
Fate, destiny, coincidence and luck.Everthing is pre-destined and we dont know what to expect the day after but GOD knows beforehand whether it will be busy or not.Life has its ups and downs and it was just coincidental that it was a busy and i banged on the table all on the same day.To tell the truth days before that i did banged the table louder and longer purposely without them knowing.Luck wasnt on our side that day.Like a teams can train like crazy and they know the gold is theirs but sometimes you know it not their day and luck is not on their side.
Lets get mathematical. If you look at my job scope, the things are pretty much the same thing day in day out. They are limited cases that we attend to.It might not be a daily things chasing suspect but you are bound to sooner or later. So the probability of me facing some cases is not small. At the start of every shift my mind should expect such things because maths have proven that the chances of me facing certain things is there and I cannot totally rule it out though it is uncommon.Well maybe cases of suicide or decompose body carry a very small probability but there is still a slight chance of attending to it.So me chasing a suspect that day was not because of the conversation i had but because there was always a chance that i will be chasing people around and that was the day.Its not a rare encounter from the place i work it,it like a weekly or fortnight affair.
See banging on the table never equals to busyday. Its just not right and logical.
